Shooting / Filming Diary

Shooting Diary

28/09/2009 – 29/09/2009

Filming of Michael’s individual running shots on Whitely Bay beach / promenade. May require re-shoot to acquire additional footage.

30/09/2009 – 1/10/2009

Filming of Sam’s running shots and car crash sequence. Shot in the back streets of Whitley Bay. Perfectly successful, although may require some links to be shot

2/10/2009

Shoot of Matthew’s running shots in Holywell Dene, Lots of stock footage shot, plenty to use, we have learnt from the previous two shoots what makes a successful shoot, so we were able to shoot in one day and do not require shooting additional scenes

5/10/2009

Initially this time was scheduled for the second day of Matthew’s running. However, we finished these earlier than expected. So we used this spare day to reshoot the introduction for Michael’s Running Shots

6/10/2009 – 7/10/2009

We used these two days to film Emma’s running shots and intro, although we have learnt what shots to get, and get as many as possible, we still required two days to do this

8/10/2009

This was the first day of our performance shots, tonight we were filming style 1 in the school’s drama hall. After near 2 hours of lighting set up and testing, we began filming and got some of the best footage of the video

9/10/2009

This was the second day of filming our whole band performance shots, this time, performance style 2 in the abandoned warehouse. We began filming as soon as possible starting at 6.30am, this gave us enough time to set up during the darker/early hours, then once we were set up, we were ready to shoot with the perfect light. We got well over 4 hours of stock footage between the two cameras

Filming Complete.

Magazine Advert

Magazine Advert - Click here to view large image

This is the final cut of the Magazine advert. It is sized so that it would take up one full page within a A4 magazine. The poster is designed to show the fun, playful side of the band in the top half, with the more serious, business pitch in the lower half

DVD Cover, Label and Inlay

DVD Cover - Click here to view large image

This is the DVD Cover. The front shows each of the band members, in a posed stance; displaying the seriousness of the band. The back is a graffiti wall, showing the rebel nature of the band. This expands onto the Spine to make this DVD stand out from others on the shelf

This would obviously been stuck onto the DVD itself. This shows the key information and summrises the rights / legal talk from the back of the case, and helps to avoid confusion by placing it on the disc as well

DVD Inlay -Click here to view large image

Finally, this is the inlay/flyer that would go into the inside of the dvd cover, held in place by plastic clips within the case. This is a simple lyric sheet for the best selling and most popular song on the DVD

Style Model

The main style model we used during the creation of our promotional materials was the Red Hot Chilli Pepper's Live at Slaine Castle DVD cover, it provides the necessary styles that our band was after.

Rough Cut

Feedback from Rough Cut:

1. Decrease the length of some of the clips - A lot of the clips in the later half of the music video are too long, and need to be cut down, with scene/angle changes on the beat of the music

2. Lip Syncing - It was said that some of the lip syncing was out of time or did not look convincing. For example, at the start of the video. The song itself has a "Shouting" style, yet our footage is a lot calmer

3. Cut down the length of the Acoustic Intro - Similar to the first point. It lasted too long, and makes the viwer wait too long for the proper video.

4. Need more varied shots - A lot of the shots were full band shots, the review group suggested that we try and include more close ups of the instruments/faces of the performers.

We acted on this feedback for the final cut, although this meant reshooting some areas of the video. This feedback was invaluable in producing the final version of the video.

This is our Rough Cut / Hand Drawn Design of the Advert. This was our base, and prevented us from wasting time on experimenting with layouts on the computer. Meaning we could simply get onto Photoshop and begin creating straight away.
